Hélène Tissières, curator of the exhibition Dakar-Martigny: homage to the Biennale of contemporary art, at the Manoir in Martigny, Switzerland, from June 10 to September 18, 2016, featured the work of thirty established artists who over the years had participated in the Dakar Art Biennale, including Akomfrah, Anatsui, Barreto, Denis, Alleck, Ndoye, Erruas, Dime, Keita, Lô, Konaté, Clarke, Douglas. Composed of an In and 10 Offs in museums, foundations, cafes, shops, a catalog (150 pages) with writings by key art historians presented the many works

Painting, photography, video, sculpture and design were honored. The event coincided with the Festival of the 5 Continents and featured several African groups, including Senegalese rapper Didier Awadi. During the opening, round tables were organized with artists, musicians, filmmakers and writers to discuss the art’s impact on the political and social context, the importance of the Dakar Biennale of contemporary art and the challenges it continues to face. The artists present also discussed their work.
